Choosing makeup brushes

When painting, to create a good piece of art, you must have good tools. Similarly, good makeup requires good makeup brushes to assist in the process.

Makeup brush bristles can generally be divided into synthetic and animal hair. Synthetic bristles are primarily used for foundation brushes and eye brushes for outlining contours, as foundation liquid has a higher moisture content. If foundation brushes made from animal hair are not cleaned properly, they are prone to mold growth. Therefore, animal hair is primarily used for powder brushes, whose soft texture is suitable for sweeping and blending. Makeup brush sets range from 3-piece sets to 30-piece sets, with more sets offering more specialized brushes. For cosplayers, a 10-piece set is recommended, as it includes all the basic brushes needed. It is essential to include a spiral brush and eyebrow brush set, as these are crucial for eyebrow application and mascara application.

The feel of the brush is the most important factor when selecting makeup brushes. After receiving your purchase, test them first by picking up the brush and swiping it to check if the bristles glide smoothly, retain their original shape after use, and are tightly packed or sparse. Gently pull the bristles to see if any fall out. It is best to test them on your face, as the sensation on the back of your hand may be inaccurate—what feels comfortable on your face is truly comfortable.

Most makeup brands provide matching makeup bags, or you can purchase a makeup bag based on the quantity and size of your cosmetics. Small makeup bags are suitable for short-handled brushes and travel brushes, while larger ones are suitable for professional makeup brushes. Long-handled brushes are convenient to use but not easy to carry. You can purchase a shorter, larger brush based on the size of your makeup bag.
